Auto Industry Bail Out

Saturday Night Live has been on a role of late with the election, the economic crisis and now the Detroit auto manufactures.

This video targets the auto industry 'bail-out'. It is over the top but pretty funny. Enjoy!

WHY OBAMA?

I do a lot of business in the United States so I have had my share of opinions on the current US regime but I have also had many opinions shared with me by my American friends and colleagues.

Quite simply when it comes down to it, American citizens could choose a new party and the leader of that new party to lead the nation or simply re-elect the same party that has caused havoc the last 8 years.
This election was not won based on promises, policies, or leadership. It was won simply based on the need for change.

I know many US republicans, die hard republicans who would not and could not support another 4 years of republicans in office. Frankly George Bush won this election for the democrats. A quick look at some of Bush’s blunders that made supporting republicans nearly impossible to do.

1. Foreign Policy – Bush was seen as a bully and held little regard for other nation’s rights to sovereignty. Provoking terrorists and nations to attack the US through his statements was irresponsible and actions of a bully.

2. Fiscal Policy – During Bush’s time in office the US public debt has exceeded $10 trillion dollars. There always seems to be plenty of money for his war, but not for the troops who fight the battles, not for the health care of the citizens of the United States and not for education. Granted has not had significant tax increases however amassing that much debt and leaving the mess for someone else to deal with is irresponsible and unacceptable.

3. Civil Liberties – Bush removed certain civil liberties from the American people such as allowing unlawful detention, ability to spy on individuals without obtaining a warrant, and searching of one’s home or business without the owner’s permission or knowledge.

There are obviously many other factors that contributed to the republican party downfall such as the on-going troops in Iraq, lying to the public about evidence of WMD, torture, response to hurricane Katrina, pre presidential business affairs, drug use, and lying about military service. While many of these fall on the sole discretion of Bush’s choices it is the first three main points that have many republicans questioning the parties direction and in my opinion contributed to the results of this latest election more so than any other factor(s).

That being said I believe Obama is a very intelligent man and a solid leader who will no doubt improve foreign relations. If I had a vote it would have been for Obama. That being said I do have concerns with his economic policy and thoughts on trade agreements. We will have to wait to see how that shapes up.
